OUR JOURNEY, QUITE A RIDE!
We were so young in 2001! That’s the year we started to organize surf trips and temporary camps in Morocco and Ericeira. We liked it so much that we made it a living. And never stopped since. Ericeira Surf Camp and West Coast Surf School have been our life and our joy. What an amazing journey!
2001
All Started in Taghazut!
In 2000 Nuno Goncales, founder of the Ericeira Surf camp organized Surtrips from Portugal to morocco together with his partner. It started with a two week Surftrips four times a year during the winter season but he quickly realized that he wanted to organze more Surftrips. So he started to rent houses in Ericeira too.
2005
The Birth of Ericeira Surf Camp
Let us introduce you to… Ericeira Surf Camp! This was the year we created the brand. Our first physical location was next to Foz do Lizandro, a house with four bedrooms and capacity for 14 people. It had a gorgeous sea view and was perfectly located just 50 meters from the sea! By this year, our surf school was already on the move also.
2009
Hey, We Make Surfboards!
With the help our friend Jonnas, a Swedish engineer, we developed a robot to produce surfboards and started partnering with multiple brands and shapers. The most important for the project was Mica, founder of Mica Surfboards. Our project helped to increase the quality (and performance) of the surfboards.
2011
A New Home for the Camp
In the midst of an historic financial crisis, we acquired a new place for Ericeira Surf Camp, right in the center of the village. The amazing building was then painted and decorated with the help of family and friends – a fun and ambitious DIY project that took us months to complete. But it was worthy! Improved conditions for all our guests.
2017
A New Home for the School
Always looking to improve, we inaugurated West Coast Surf School new facilities, also in the center of Ericeira. Our instructors had been teaching surf since 2005, and in 2012 we opened a space in Carcavelos. But the new facilities in Ericeira, together with an enlarged structure, contributed decisively to make our school a reference in surf lessons.
I stayed at the camp for a week and everything was just great. Nice and clean hostel with a very homey vibe right in the center of Ericeira. The staff and other guests were so friendly and welcoming and it was really easy to make new friends and have a good time. Also the surf instructors are really good and professional. You really make an improvement taking lessons at the surf school. All my best recommendations for ESC!
